Located in the heart of Canyonlands, Monument Basin is one of nature’s brilliant spectacles.  Hard white limestone resists erosion around the edges of the basin as the softer sandstone withers away with heavy rains.  There was a thick haze in the sky from nearby forest fires the morning I first saw the basin.  When I returned at dusk the wind had changed direction, taking away the smoke and haze.  After experimenting with different angles to photograph it from, I decided on a sweeping view of the basin with a hint of the mesa surrounding it.
