Very early one frigid morning I was hopping along the rocks with my camera gear. When it was light enough that I could see without my flashlight, my eye was caught by the way the ocean’s waves were crashing into a little cove. I set up my camera and waited for the sun to rise. When the sun was just starting to break the horizon, I took the photograph. I had about a five second window of opportunity to take the shot. Any earlier, I would not have gotten the reflection and color of the rising sun – any later, there would have been too much light to capture the texture of the frothy ocean.
